SPEAKER_02I I don't know about you, but like he was like a foundational piece of me loving football. Man. Real shit. He was like a player that I firmly remember in my childhood as like somebody that made me love the Titans.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean mine was before that, probably. He was definitely like, you know.
SPEAKER_02Like I watched the Titans before that, but I'm saying, like, as a player that like I remember when we drafted.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. He's for me, he's one of like the Titans. Like when I think of the Tennessee Titans, he's gonna be one of the first ones that come to my mind for sure.
SPEAKER_02An absolute legend. Man. The shit that he did on the field was incredible.
SPEAKER_00Bro, he was just like it was just crazy because he was like how fast he was, but he also was like powerful, bro. Like he would catch a ball, truck somebody, and then cut out on it.
SPEAKER_02His vision was incredible. Elite. He had the head twitch and the back.
SPEAKER_00Like he literally had the entire package. He could do it all. He was such a threat. One of the sickest. He was one of those guys that was really like, you know, that year that he had the 2,500 scrimmage yards. He kind of did that in a time before, like, running backs being heavily involved in the receiving game. Oh, 100 boys.
SPEAKER_02It helped that he had Carrie Collins. Yeah. But he did that, you know. You would call Kerry Collins immobile. Can't move. Like literally, like his hips probably hurt.
SPEAKER_00I think about Chris Johnson, and I think about like when he got hurt that year. I think that was the Carrie Collins year when we we started out with like 10, 11, and 0. Yeah, we were sick. And he got finished. I think that was the year when he got hurt in Baltimore. Yeah, I remember that. Man. I remember that. You know, anyways, you know, he was diagnosed today with ALS. And when I watched that shit, dog, like I really almost wanted to cry. I couldn't. I didn't even watch the whole thing. It hurt. I couldn't, I couldn't either, bro. Like for me, like it hit me, and I was done like watching it when like Stray Han turned to him. Man. And like he just sitting there and you can just see like it looks just like him. And then you just see his bodies become like how frail he's like. And then like you just hear his voice and you just see his face, like he can't like talk or anything. Yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_02That shit's satisfying.
SPEAKER_00Man, that shit, like for anybody. 39 years old. He's so young. 39 years old.

SPEAKER_00Man. It's just crazy to think like how long. It wasn't long ago. Like he was like in the NFL, torching people. Like you go from in what was it, maybe 10 years?
SPEAKER_02That one hurts, bro.
SPEAKER_00Man, sad. It's so sad.

SPEAKER_00It's one of those ones that stings. Yeah, because there's nothing you can do about it.
SPEAKER_02Like a childhood icon. Man. Especially for me. Like, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_00The impact that he had on the on the like those teams was it really shows how nice that he was because like the Titans were pretty good for the duration of him being there. I mean, we weren't necessarily great, but like we were pretty good for the majority of the time he was there.
SPEAKER_02And we didn't have no receivers. His 2,000 yard season, he went. That was we went like 8-8, didn't we?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think so.
SPEAKER_02He wasn't even on a seven. He wasn't even on like a great team and ran for 2K. That's impressive.
SPEAKER_00And like he was a big part of the reason why they made it that far. I swear.
SPEAKER_02I swear. Bad teams, the bad teams pass the ball a lot more because they're bad. They have to throw the ball a lot more.
SPEAKER_00He was the outlier. Yeah, man. So sad, man. Prayers up for CJ and his family.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for sure. We love you. Absolutely. He's a legend. Man. Why did they get over?
SPEAKER_00He's probably, in my opinion, honestly, like one of the more underrated running backs. Absolutely. Like he didn't have the longevity of it, but like he like immediately came in and was like an elite level player for. Do you remember when we drafted him? Everybody was like, who the who? Yeah, you just see this guy out of Eastern Carolina, like nobody ever heard from. You're like, oh my god, you drafted a running back in the first round. We drafted him because he was fast. And then he just comes out and immediately is like killing. He was the sickest. It was what, his second year in the league was when he went for 2K, or was it his third? I'm not sure. It was one of like I'd have to look it up. I think it was year. I feel like it was year two. It was either year two or year three, but yeah, man, incredible, bro. Such a dynamic player. Like, I think about it now with this, we can talk about what would he be in today's NFL? Sick. Oh my god. He'd be so sick. He'd be Jameer Gibbs. And then some. He got to tote that rock, though. He played at the perfect time for him. Yeah, but I'm saying he I mean, the NFL's going back to running the football. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Slowly. I think part of it is like I feel like quarterback play isn't as great as it once was. I don't think so either. Like I feel like there was a like there's like 15 guys.
SPEAKER_00It's like 15 years old. There was a period of time where there was such high level on it both sides.
SPEAKER_02Right. And I'm not saying like superstar high level or anything, but I'm like competent quarterback.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it kind of falls off. Like I don't think the gap, like there was a conversation for so long, like, even with Tom Brady. Like, you never walked into it, and we call him the GOAT, and it's because of his winning, but we never was like, man, for 20 years, hit we we think of him as the best. Like Yeah, Paid Man and Aaron Rodgers.
SPEAKER_02There was a lot of superstar QBs back in that day, too. Man.
SPEAKER_00Like dreaming, I mean you had like the you had the people that were like aging. Yeah. And then like I think the difference is is like there's not as many like young, like these quarterbacks aren't like as good they don't come in as come in like how they used to be in a sense.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean they also I feel like they played longer in college.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02They weren't coming in as young. There are more projects. They weren't drafting the Anthony Richardsons of the world at five. Facts. Or four, whatever it was. Facts. You know what I mean? Like that was just a bet on upside. Yeah, a lot of those guys like had it. Right. When did it change? That's a good question. Like, when was like the downtick and like QB play? Man.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I just really feel like part of it is though, is we got maybe we were just getting spoiled. Here's like we had like a super elite, like the top fives and six, seven quarterbacks were super elite. Like you gotta think we had Peyton, Tom. You still had the Brett Favre, like part of that time. Then you had Drew Brees, Big Ben. Yeah, right. Eli. I mean, Eli got those Super Bowls, but he was never like a you never looked at people like him and Phillip Rivers as like Yeah, but they were still nice.
SPEAKER_02Like you said, like they were nice. Yeah. Like they were, they were like you would take them on your team.
SPEAKER_00I mean, even then Tony Romo's Matt Hasselbacks, like Yeah, right. You remember John Kittenna? I feel like if you drop them in the NFL, they're gonna be better than what they were, like, in the era that they were. Like those are some of those are almost afterthoughts.
SPEAKER_02You remember uh John Kittner? He was weak as fuck. City wasn't horrible. He was weak. He was a competent quarterback.
SPEAKER_00I talk about quarterbacks like that, nah, because I'm I mean Jeff Garcia is cool. He was a dog. Yeah, but I'm thinking when I think about Jake Delone, solid. You know, you had old Jay Cuddy. The Cuddy? Yeah, Jake Plummer. Jake the flip plumber when he flipped off the camera. Shout out to him.
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to, I'm I'm trying to dig. Carson Palmer. Yeah, I'm trying to dig in my dog. He was a dog. Man. He was a dog. I'm trying to dig in my bag.

SPEAKER_02Solid. He was solid. Man. He was Chad Pennington? Dog. Dog. He was a dog. Like there was a bunch of competent quarterback play. I feel like I feel like it was like a high. A whole lot of it. Yeah. Like they were all decent. Nothing.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you had some very pissed poor people too, but it I just like I don't know. I don't know how the way to describe it.
SPEAKER_02Like, I don't think Bryce Young back in that day. But I don't know. Like I shouldn't pick on Bryce Young.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right. Doesn't cut it. I mean, you take that chance, you know, I don't know. The game has changed.

SPEAKER_00But you know, I feel like also part of those two team things, too, is in like in those age, like I feel like you had more time to like grow. Like, think about it. Like you get a new regime, year one, your team's gonna be sucking because uh we took we just had a new regime change. Terrible team, we gotta get a quarterback. Then you get the quarterback, you know. There is no more you we're gonna give you three or four years of being bad as you're building this. Right. Or or then we're you're out of here, the quarterback's gone, the coach is gone, the GM's gone, like there's no like continuity. Yeah. Like ever. You don't see coaches getting like the tenure that they got. Like, imagine, think about I mean, I guess some of it is a little bit of a crossover, but think about how long of a hook Jason Garrett got in Dallas.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.

SPEAKER_02Yeah, like if you have like two bad seasons back to back, it's over. Right. You can go pack your bag.
SPEAKER_00If you're a bad team and you come in and you get hired, and then you're bad for two years, bro. If the Jets are bad, Aaron Glenn's out of here. He's out. And then what'll happen is some coach will come in and everything that like the they were building starts to come to fruition in a way. Right. And then now it's like, oh my gosh, what a great coach.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's weird. Well, it'll just be some they all come from the same place now. Every coach is coming from.

SPEAKER_02Too much nepotism. It's all from one area. It's crazy. Because I get it. I saw a picture of Sean McVay, no homo, pause the other day with a shirt off, the dude's jacked.

SPEAKER_00His wife's bad too. I would assume. In the NFL. Yeah, he's just a guy. Yeah, I mean, Sean McVeigh's a one would say a handsome man. I didn't say that. I just said he was rich. You said he you said he you talk about how good he looked with his shirt off. I was just saying he was jacked. I mean, you seen Sean McVeigh? I mean, that's kind of the same thing. SPEAKER_00I mean, if I'm gonna hire somebody, I'm gonna want to hire somebody that's under Sean McBay. Yeah, right. But part of me is gonna be a little hesitant about that because it's just like I the man that is there making this shit happen is Sean McBay.
SPEAKER_02Because think about it, like to in today's era, the way that things work now, so it's we've established it's you know, if you're bad two, three years in a row, like you're out. Happens everywhere in the NFL. Nobody gets lead way anymore. Mike Vrabel took us to an AFC championship, had two bad years, he was out. Ma'am. So and none of it was his fault. And so, like it it can happen to anybody, right? Yeah, like it can I mean Bill Belichick. Except maybe Kyle Shanahan, maybe Sean McVeigh. They probably like those are probably the two coaches that get the leeway, but those are also where all the coaches are coming from. They all come from those two trees. Yeah. But Sean McVeigh came from the Kyle Shanahan tree, so it's really all one tree. Well, and well, they kind of came up together, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, with Mike McDaniel. I mean, think about how many people that came up and that are in the league involved and shit that were up under Andy Reid at some point.
SPEAKER_02Right. Have you ever seen that photo of that Redskins coaching staff?
SPEAKER_00Oh my god. Incredible. That like that, you look at that and you're like, that's the greatest coaching staff of all. How did this team feel? How are they not the same? And then you're like, oh shit, it's the odor. Maybe. But I mean, seriously, though. I mean, McVe they had McVay, Mike McDaniel, Kyle Shanahan, Matt LaFleur.
SPEAKER_01Man, like that's enough right there. They were loaded to the gills.
SPEAKER_00I'm pretty sure there was more. Like, it goes be way beyond that. I can't think of it off the top of my head, but like that's incredible. You had that on one staff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's just three.
SPEAKER_00And they're each incredible in their own ways. Like, yeah. Except Mike McDaniel, yeah. You don't like Mike McDaniel? I mean, I like Mike McDaniel as an offensive mind, but like I didn't like him as a head coach. He's a little soft. He can be a head coach. I don't, I mean, I know. I I don't think so. I think he will get another shooting. You know, you know, I look at Mike, Mike McDaniel. You only tell you what who he needs to be. He needs to be my boy that was like cheating with Michigan. You know what I'm saying? Like, here's the sign. Like, he's just analyzing the shit, and he's like, hey, when they do this, this is what it is. Right. Right. But he's like, he's doing that, but he's just like uh sitting here drawing up plays. I can go ahead and tell you that.
SPEAKER_02I can go ahead and tell you his next team he's gonna be the head coach of. Who? It's the New York Jets. I mean, yeah. It's the only logical answer. Maybe the Browns. Nah. Todd Monkin's probably got a year.
SPEAKER_00That yeah, that's gonna be like a that we wanted to put somebody in place that was gonna be bad while we go and make all these moves to get the foundation where we want. So when we go hire the guy, we've got the we can let him build his vision. We'll just bring Todd Monk back as the offensive coordinator. I wouldn't want to go be. Like, imagine wanting to go be like the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. I mean, he'll get a he gets a paycheck for a year or two.

SPEAKER_02I think it's well look, first off, the relationship was obviously it was done. Right. Like he hated the GM, he hated the like he's hated Thomas a Solo or a Saka. Ja Morant hates the NBA. Hey man, whenever you need a play, call 12. Call 12, man. He also just didn't but that the relationship was it was gone. So like it was like we gotta get him out of. As a Memphis Grizzlies fan, like how does that make you feel like moving forward? Like from the Yeah, but I feel like it's off to a terrible start.
SPEAKER_02I like, you know, Cam Boozer's not a bad start. Yeah, but that's all you got. Cedric Coward's nice. I don't I don't know. You probably you don't you haven't watched the Grizzlies as closely as I have, but Jalen Wells, Cedric Coward, you got some pieces to build up.
SPEAKER_00Those are good players, control players. That's those aren't building, like those aren't people that you want to be coming in depending on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, you you say that, but I'm like, I'm telling you, like the Grizzlies have been absolutely incredible drafting players. The la I mean, probably the last six years, seven years. It goes beyond that. Like, it's just you know, our GM's not bad.
SPEAKER_00Like, I just think you know, you're gonna end up where you're gonna hit a ceiling like the Bulls, where you're just oh man, we got some solid pieces, and these people are good. They're good okay, and it's like for seven years you made the play-in.
SPEAKER_02Don't compare us to the Bulls.
SPEAKER_00Bro, I mean, what what are you what are you saying? You're telling me that these players are going to develop into something, like you're gonna need a piece. You got screwed on your draft pick next year. Uh yeah, but we still have ours. Camboozer. You I mean, I guess we would we can hype up Cam Boozer now, but I'm not gonna let you forget how you felt about Cam Boozer. And I can't let you shift how you are projecting him now that he's a Grizzly. Well, look, I'm gonna be a fan first. Yeah, that's fair. I'm not an expert. But you can't come in here and be like, oh, I mean, we got Cam Boozer. That's a franchise cornerstone when you were like, hey, bro, I don't want Cam Boozer. I've read a lot of propaganda the last couple days.
SPEAKER_02Got some buy-in. I got some I got some good bias. He's biased. He's man, they're like, hey, he's the best two-way player in the draft. I've read I've read shit as crazy as he is the best player in the draft.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Look, it I will say for me, from a totality perspective of it, when I look at though the people who you called the best, like someone said that there's three number one picks in this class. And I agree with that. I hope that's true. I agree with that. But when you look at the player, like I feel like he was probably the best overall player out of those three in college for sure. Let me say this.
SPEAKER_02He did it all. He did. Well, look, and here's the thing. He's not gonna be he a lot of it was bully ball, though, man. Like, he's not gonna play bully ball in the league. His dad was a dog.
SPEAKER_00His dad was a dog, his dad was tough. His dad was a dog. He's got that build, but like he's also got the game. Like, man, it just feels like he's gonna be one of those power forwards that like you can go and run like your offense through.
SPEAKER_02He's gotta put on a lot of weight. I shouldn't say a lot of weight. He needs to put on like ten, fifteen pounds of muscle.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, I just think the thing that helps him uh he's got a high floor because his game isn't bad and and he like how do you feel about summer league?
SPEAKER_02You like summer league?
SPEAKER_00I mean, I look at it the same way I look at preseason football.
SPEAKER_02Uh uh I don't know. I don't know if you it should probably be taken a little bit more serious than that.
SPEAKER_00I uh I only say that because these people like bring in like people Yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_02But I'm saying like you do get all the top picks playing against each other, and you also get some second-year players that have like Carter Bryant's probably gonna be in the summer league this year. Like there's gonna be a bunch of second-year guys that you know are gonna be good or good role players, or you know, like a good six-man, or maybe a rotational piece. Like those players are gonna be in the summer league too, so you do get some like real comp.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And so, you know, like you get to judge like every like dude, every player that's ever played in the summer league.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna put stock into like what these people are gonna be in the NBA, though. I mean, you should take it off of summer league. You should take like the top players. Like, I expect Cam Boozer to go to the summer league and fucking kill.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, any like all your top, all your top prospects that get drafted, if they go to like if they go to summer league and they go crazy, like it's normally a good sign.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I just I think the thing the difference is, like, obviously the difference is is like it's not like in the preseason where you're just taking all of your the starters are benched and we're just playing, you know, our rookies all season, like all game and shit like that. So it's different. Like at least like they're gonna be playing, but sometimes they might come out and hoop for a couple of games and then get set down for the rest of it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Especially if they're going crazy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Like I would rather eat and then you're like, alright, I'm good. We've seen enough. You look good.
SPEAKER_02Like, I would rather have Cam Boozer than Darren Peterson.

SPEAKER_00You don't feel like he's gonna have like he's not gonna be a guy that becomes like good, but like didn't live up to his potential. Like you feel like he's either gonna be like a complete bust or like he's gonna be a superstar. Yeah. Like it doesn't feel it, yeah. It's weird that it feels that way.
SPEAKER_02Do you know what the craziest thing is though? Is I actually feel better about him being a superstar than I do about him being a bust. Yeah, you just gotta. But I think his bust fat, like him pause. I think like him It's on the board. Yeah, well, I think it's like higher than most, though. Like, if I had to like put a percentage on it, like I would say AJ DeBonsta would have what like a 30% chance of not being great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I think he has a lot of things. I don't think that there's a world where DeBanza comes in and he's like not like he might not be what uh like a superstar or great, but like he could be somebody that could be like an all-star caliber piece, like a like a Carl Anthony Township.
